TAMPA, Fla., Nov 22 -
Schulz Academy added yet another national title to its reputuar of impressive triumps when the U15 Boys captured the 2005 USL Super-Y League North American Championship. This was a repeat championship performance as the defending U14 Boys champions from last year downed the Reading Rage 2-1 for the U15 Boys championship on goals from
Karol Chorak and
Edvin Worley. Schulz opened the tournament with a 2-1-0 run in group play before dominating the New Hampshire Phantoms 5-2 in the semifinals.
Paul Berg was named tournamnet MVP and was also named to the SYL North American Finals ODP Select Team.
On route to their repeat championship, Schulz Academy defeated the tournament favorites Washington Crossfire who is ranked No. 7 in the world based on their performance in the Nike Manchester United International Cup Premier World Championships. The final score was 2-0 with Edvin Worley and U.S. U-17 International Josmer Altidore scoring the goals. Midfielder Jonathan Hohn and last year's MVP Shawn Barry were also noticably impressive with their play.
Director Josef Schulz looks on as the U15 boys hoist the Championship trophy
"I want to congratulate Paul Berg for his MVP of the tournament award, although almost every single player of our team for me was the MVP." said Academy Director Josef Schulz. "This just shows that a hard working player, who doesn't have the same opportunity to score than others can achieve something special with consistant play like Paul did. But as I said for me all of you were MVP's!!!"
The Schulz Academy U15 boys earned the respect and recognition as the most talented team in all age groups in the competition. In fact, Fox Soccer Channel would like to include this team in the featured televised match for next year's Super-Y North American Finals.
Congratulations again to all the players, parents, and Coach Josef Schulz on their repeat National Championship.
