Schulz Academy '90 recorded their second win at the Megacard Summer Cup U-17 tournament in Austria by defeating Glasgow Rangers 1-0 today. The game’s lone goal came off a spectacular finish from team captain Donovan Henry. Rangers, noted as the most physical team in the tournament, imposed their aggressive style of play from the start. The Schulz Academy defense of Shawn Barry, Joey Borick, and Corey Shirley was up for the challenge and did not allow Rangers a single opportunity on goal. The first half ended 0:0 with Schulz Academy having the half’s only true scoring opportunity…a ball pushed wide by Donovan Henry after a brilliant run. The second half was played much like the first with Rangers being the aggressor. The deadlock was finally broken with just 5 minutes remaining when Jamel Johnson crossed the ball into the Rangers penalty area where Donovan Henry got up to bury a well placed powerful header. The win guarantees Schulz Academy no worst than 4th place in the 8-team international tournament.
Schulz Academy will play their final game on Saturday, August 5th against the second place team from Group A for third place honors.
