Schulz Academy Concludes Successful European Visit
Tour ends with a 1:0 win over Red Bull Salzburg U17
Schulz Academy ’90 finished up their trip to Austria with a 1:0 win over Red Bull Salzburg U17 in a friendly on August 8th. The goal was scored in the 1st of three 30 minute periods by Hasani Sinclair, assisted by Alex Bidos. Both Sinclair and Bidos play for the Coral Spring Storm. It was Sinclair’s third goal of the tour as he also netted against Nordea Admira U17 in the team’s first friendly back on July 30th and against FSA Austria MAGNA on August 2nd. The win took Schulz Academy to a 3-3 record overall on their European tour. The team finished 4th out of 8 teams in the Megacard Summer Cup U17 tournament with a 2-2 record.

“Red Bull Salzburg was physically very strong”, recalls Head Coach Dr. Josef Schulz, “however they really didn’t manage a serious chance to score on us. In the first 20 minutes they made a lot of pressure, and won many 50/50 balls, but you could see already when we came close to their goal we were the more dangerous team. In the middle of the first half we put some very nice actions in the midfield together, and one of them ended in a great goal by Hasani Sinclair. Alex Bidos made a skillful dribbling in the midfield and played a through ball behind the defenders of Red Bull Salzburg. Hasani got the ball on the left side in side the box, looked up although he was already under a lot of pressure from 2 defenders and made a controlled shot into the right corner of the goal, giving the goalkeeper no chance for a save. After this goal we controlled the game, and we had more chances to put the game out of reach for Salzburg. The last 10 minutes Red Bull raised the pressure and tried to tie the game, but our defense with Shawn Barry, Joey Borick, Corey Shirley and our goalkeeper Lyle Dankenbring made some great defensive plays to stop all offensive actions of the Salzburg team”.

Dr. Josef Schulz, Head Coach of the Schulz Academy Teams: “I consider the trip to be a success. The team performed well and we gained the respect of all our opponents. It was valuable experience for all the boys. I want to thank all the parents for allowing their boys to participate in the tour. It is an experience they will always remember and benefit from. Also, our good performance overall certainly opens more opportunities for us to get invited to other big tournaments in the future. We accomplished our goal which was to demonstrate that in Florida we have the talent to compete with the best.”
