After the big success of the Schulz Academy last year in different major competitions (Champions Cup, Super Y League, Summer Cup in Europe) a preview of the goals for the new season.
"The first goal is to qualify as many teams as possibly for the National Finals in the Super Y League, to give the players the exceptional exposure in front of college and National Team Coaches at this event. Last year we were the only club in the country qualifying all 5 age groups to the National Finals in November 2006 in
Tampa . Many players, especially in the older age groups made the first key contacts with college coaches, and got offers for full scholarships because of their excellent performance." The second goal is to develop Elite Teams in the age groups U9 to U12, which will be the future of the
Schulz
Academy . These teams will go to important tournaments in order to give them some important experience for the future. The third goal is to give as many talented players in the area the chance to play with us in high level competitions to show their talent to college coaches, and give them the chance to be selected as US Youth National Team players by the National Team Coaches attending these important tournaments."
During your 10 years here in the States after moving from Austria , what are you most proud of in reference to your coaching job here in Florida?
"I think a coach should be measured by how many players he developed to a certain level. Winning titles is nice for the players, and parents, but it isn’t really our main goal. The fact that 12 players from the
Schulz
Academy are playing in US Youth National Teams is most satisfying for me. And many of them have some serious potential to make a big impact at the highest level in the near future, like Josmer Altidore, Donovan Henry, or Shawn Barry. Last summer we participated in the biggest U17 tournament in
Europe, and our players were definitely the most interesting players for the numerous professional scouts watching our matches. 5 of them could have signed professional contracts immediately after the tournament."
What is your personal plan for the future?
"I am feeling very good, and I think I have another 10 years of teaching soccer. During these years I want to develop as many players as possible for the highest level, and then offering these players all my experience, Know How, and contacts from the last 30 years in Europe, so they can make as much as possible money in professional soccer in the future.
