SYL Finals Update - Day 4
Schulz Academy U17 Boys' Great Streak Ends
TAMPA, FL (November 19, 2007) - The best team in the history of the Super Y-League, dubbed by USL Officials and scouts alike, saw their incredible championship winning streak come to an end today in the semi-final of the U17 Boys SYL championships. The Schulz Academy U17 Boys had won three consecutive USL SYL North American Finals Championships and, over the years, had created and aura of invincibility at the Finals. Their games always drew the most interest among scouts as this was the group that spawned one of the U.S.’s most promising young talents, (recently capped) Josmer Altidore, and National Youth team regulars like Shawn Barry, Julian Serrato, Hugh Dixon, Jamel Johnson, Edvin Worley, and Karol Chorak. The group continued to demonstrate their quality year in and year out and was a model of consistency that epitomized the very best the Super Y-League had to offer. However, as is the nature of the beautiful game, given the right circumstances, it is possible to beat even the very best, and incredibly that is what the Chicago Magic did by the narrowest of margins, 1-0, off a 75th minute glancing header. Having lost Hugh Dickson to a straight red card the game before and then seeing Shawn Barry go out hurt early in this game, the U17 Schulz Boys had their work cut out for them against a very strong full-strength Chicago Magic team. It is no accident that the Chicago Magic is the USL’s Number 1 rated club in North America - two years running. It would take that type of pedigree to dethrone the greatest team in the history of the USL Super Y-League.

The Schulz Academy U14 Boys saw their Super Y-League run come to an end in the semi-final game for the second year running. Despite being widely considered the best team in the competition, as was the case last year, the U14 Boys could not capitalize on their numerous opportunities and fell 1-0 to Arsenal FC.

Congratulations to all the Super Y-League participants and thanks to the USL for putting on the best youth tournament. Schulz Academy is proud to be a part of the Super Y-League. Cheers until next year!
