Worldwide search for player gold mine led Austrian Josef Schulz to South Florida.
By Mike Woitalla, Executive Editor, Soccer America Magazine
Josef Schulz once spent two years traveling the world scouting young soccer talent. But on this day, nine years ago, he was just taking a walk with his wife, Barbara, in their Boca Raton, Fla., neighborhood.
They stopped to watch a pickup game and Schulz spotted an exceptional 8-year-old.
"I asked my wife, ’Do I see this right or am I dreaming?’" Schulz recalls.
The boy was Josmer "Jozy" Altidore, a New Jersey-born son of Haitian immigrants whose family had relocated in South Florida. Schulz, in the midst of launching the youth club that would become the Schulz Academy, approached Jozy’s father.
"You might laugh at what I am about to say," Schulz said to Joseph Altidore, "but one day your son is going to be on the U.S. national team. Bring him to our practice and see if you like it."

I think all 4 players have the potential to reach the level to play in the Men’s National Team in 4-5 years, and they definitely have the quality to become professional soccer players in the future in Europe. I will help them as much as I can, to provide these opportunities when the time is right", says Dr. Schulz, founder of the Schulz Academy.
SCHULZ ACADEMY ACCEPTED IN NEW U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY LEAGUE
"To be accepted in such a high level league is fantastic. That’s the perfect infrastructure and preparation for top Elite players before their college or professional soccer carrier. To get a spot on one of these Academy Teams is almost like a scholarship for a college. Only the best players will be accepted, and this is exactly what college coaches are looking for. They will get well prepared players for their teams", says Dr. Josef Schulz, Head Coach of the
Schulz
Academy .
"Since we were accepted few days ago the telephone doesn’t stop ringing. Players from out of state, and even players from other countries want to join the academy to be part of this league. We all are honored to be part of this newest development in US Soccer, and this also will enable us to continue to provide players for the US Youth National Teams,
Top
Colleges and Professional Teams here and abroad", continues Dr. Schulz.

Second Generation Brings New Energy to Schulz Academy
Markus Schulz a natural in his father’s footsteps
Call him a “chip of the old block” Markus Schulz knows a thing or two about coaching and being successful at it as well. Markus who joined Schulz Academy as a trainer in 2006 is starting to make waves in the Boca Raton community. Tall handsome and very charismatic, the young Mr. Schulz is starting to attract many young players to the Schulz Academy training fields. Markus so impressed the soccer patrons that word quickly spread to Boca Preparatory Headmaster Mr. Graham Hurrell who was looking to inject some energy and new direction for the school’s stagnant soccer program. Hurrell offered Schulz the job hoping that the youngster’s enthusiastic style, soccer knowledge, and personality would inspire some good performances. To make a long story short, the move worked and results surpassed everyone’s expectations.
Schulz Academy , the nationwide proven training and player developmental program, and one of the 20 top Elite clubs in the country initiated the new “Elite Soccer Alliance” in South Florida to help clubs to grow, and the club’s players to excel. Schulz Academy , which provides already the training program for years for multiple State Cup winner Boca Juniors, now is expanding this program.
Starting immediately Boca Juniors and Coral Springs Storm are the first 2 clubs of the “Elite Soccer Alliance”. For the benefit of the development of the players both clubs will work together to improve the quality of their soccer talents.
Schulz Academy will now extend its Academy program to include the U9-U12 age groups for boys and girls to be called Schulz Academy Elite Teams.
These players will be developed under the tutelage of Dr. Josef Schulz, and teams will be formed to play at the highest level in quality tournaments that offer the best competition.
The tryouts for this new program will be ongoing throughout the months of May and June and will be held at Veteran’s Park in Boca Raton, FL (9400 W. Palmetto Park Rd., Boca Raton, FL 33428) for the age groups U9 through U12 for boys and girls.
"Every talented player will get the opportunity to play on these new Schulz Academy Elite Teams. It doesn’t matter if the player is also a member of another travel team. It’s an additional service we provide through special training sessions, and the participation in high level tournaments where regular clubs would either not be accepted or would not be competitive." says Dr. Schulz, founder and Head Coach of the Academy.
