Big Night For Josmer
Jozy scored to give the Red Bulls a 1-1 tie with the LA Galaxy ending the Galaxy win streak at 6
BOCA RATON, FL (October 19, 2007) - Josmer loves big games.  It seems the bigger the game, the better he plays.  In the Red Bull-LA Galaxy clash on Thursday night before 27,000 at the Home Depot Center, Josmer scored his 9th goal of the MLS season to rescue a point for his club.  He also contributed defensively and often started many of the Red Bull’s attacks from a deep position.  In injury time, Josmer nearly buried L.A.’s playoff hopes as he narrowly missed scoring his 2nd of the game after making a beautifully timed run into the Galaxy box.  Normally a performance like this would have gotten Josmer "Man of the Match" honors, but that was given to L.A.’s Cobi Jones in a sentimental jester as the long-time U.S. international is retiring.  The Red Bull’s fans however voted Josmer  the "NYRB Player of the Game" on the club’s MLS web site, thus recognizing the teenager’s outstanding performance.

Dr Josef Schulz predicted that Josmer would have a big game, "He is not intimidated by the big stage", says Dr Schulz. "He is one of those players who can actually lift his game when the situation calls for it.  You see this quality in only the very best players in the world and almost never in a 17-year old."

Despite their playoff position and opponent set, the Red Bulls fielded a strong side as coach Bruce Arena did not rest any of his top available players. Altidore started on the left side of midfield as Juan Pablo Angel paired with John Wolyniec up top.  Playing left midfield is not Josmer’s natural position but you could not tell by his performance.  He looked comfortable and knew just what to on both sides of the ball.

Although the L.A. had everything to play for, it was the visitors who took command of the match from the start. In the second minute, Altidore slipped a pass from the left flank to the center of the penalty area but Galaxy goalkeeper Joe Cannon darted off his line and beat Juan Pablo Angel to the ball. Throughout the game, the Red Bulls looked more dangerous than the Galaxy as Altidore and company created chance after chance.

The Red Bulls will next play host to New England in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Oct. 27. The draw also made things difficult for their opponents; the Galaxy must defeat the Chicago Fire and hope either the Kansas City Wizards lose to FC Dallas, or the Colorado Rapids fail to defeat Real Salt Lake, if they are to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs.
