After great performances winning 2 years in a row the National Title at the National Finals of the Super Y League, Shawn Barry, is the second player in the residency program of the US Soccer Federation at the IMG Academy in Bradenton. These 2 National Titles also earned the Schulz Academy U16 team an invitation to the biggest European Tournament in August 2006, where “Schulz Academy U17” will represent USA and compete with other National Champions of 7 European countries, like Italy, Germany, England, etc.
Only the best 40 players of the country of the combined age groups 15, 16 and 17 are in this elite program of the US Soccer Federation. In the morning the players attend a private school, and in the afternoon they are prepared by the best coaches of the country and an unbelievable infrastructure for their professional career. Being in the residency program means the parents don’t have to pay for anything. Everything is paid by the US Soccer Federation.
“We are extremely happy for Shawn, and proud for our club to achieve such a success. With Josmer Altidore, who was already playing with the National Team at the U17 World Cup in Peru 2005 we have now 2 players in the residency program. With Julian Serrato, and Karol Chorak attending the camp in Carson, California in January with the U18 US National Team, our small club has now 4 National Team players” says Dr. Josef Schulz, Head Coach of the Schulz Academy.
“In addition we are proud to represent USA as National Champions in the European Tournament in August 2006. With a good showing there we hope to get an invitation also the following years for our younger players of the club. Through the Super Y League we give our players the opportunity to be seen by the National Team Coaches, and college coaches, and by participating at the tournament in Europe our players have a great chance to get the attention of the scouts of the top clubs in Europe”, continues Dr. Schulz.
The Dallas Cup and the Super Y League Finals where the key tournaments for these players, where they were scouted not only by top college coaches, but also by all US National Team Coaches. 3 of the players have already offers for scholarships from different top colleges.
“When I look at our younger age groups, and even at the U16’s I am sure that it will not take very long, till the next player of our club will join Josmer Altidore, and Shawn Barry in the residency program or in the National Team. Now with the new fields we got, I am sure we can develop many more players for the highest level” mentions Marcelo Serrato, president of the club.
