BOCA RATON, FL (June 10, 2008) – Three Schulz Academy Girls teams were in action this past weekend as week 14 of the 2008 USL Super Y-League kicked off around the State of Florida. Schulz Academy U13 girls lead by Yulie Lopez (’94), who had a 4-goal performance, earned 6 points with wins over RSL Florida (9-2) and Miami Strike Force (3-0). Kristina Shakes (’94) scored in her 4th straight game as the Schulz Academy U14 girls picked up 4 vital points after a 1-1 tie with RSL and a 4-0 win over Plantation Eagles. Meanwhile, the U15 Girls fell to RSL Florida 2-1.
U13s and Yulie Lopez (’94) vs. RSL Florida
Yulie’s performance against RSL Florida was breathtaking. She created the first goal by weaving around 4 defenders before slipping the ball to
Jacquelyn Kinni (’94) who slotted the ball into the net. Then Yulie scored her first goal of the game, unassisted, by dribbling diagonally from the left flank through the defense and calmly placing the ball low and in the right corner. Her second goal was set up from a cool pass by
Elizabeth Caputo (’95) that Yulie collected and did a 180º (degree) turn in one motion to lose her marker before firing off a shot that flew past the goalkeeper. Just before the half she added another goal to complete a first half hat-trick. Goal number four for Yulie came off a 40 yard solo run at the heart of the defense which saw Yulie slide the ball past an advancing goalkeeper. Yulie later added one more assist, again to
Jacquelyn Kinni (’94).
Yulie’s outstanding performance was just one of many on the day against RSL. Donish Cole (’95) scored twice, Jacquelyn Kinni (’94) scored twice, and Elizabeth Caputo (’95) had 3 assists. Also, 11 year old Dominique Cole (’97) impressed at midfield as she combined with Yulie Lopez to create some good chances for Schulz. The Schulz Academy U13 defense was impressive and featured Samatha “Nails” Mendez (’95), Taylor Mindlin (’95), Laurie Scott (’95) and Renee Hart (’95). Carli Deibel (’94) scored her first goal to round out the scoring for Schulz Academy.
U13 Girls vs. Miami Strike Force
Donish Cole (’95) produced another 2-goal performance as she lead Schulz Academy U13 girls to a 3-0 win over Miami Strike Force. The first goal, unassisted, was a 20-yard right foot rocket from outside the top left corner of the penalty area. The second goal came off a 30 yard flighted diagonal pass from Paulina Speckmaier (’94), an ODP Select player, that Donish collected and sprinted into the box before ripping a left foot shot into the far corner. This was Donish’s 5th goal in three games as she also tallied for the U14 girls earlier in the week vs. Weston SC. The game’s third goal came from Jacquelyn Kinni (’94), her 6th in 3 games, as she drove a 20 yard free-kick over the goalkeeper and just under the crossbar. Goalkeeper Cheyenne Walker (’94) recorded her second shutout in 3 games.

U14 Girls vs. RSL Florida
The U14 girls were unlucky not to record a win against RSL Florida as they found it difficult score against a feisty RSL defense. In fact, RSL took the lead in the first half and looked to hold off a pressing Schulz offense until Kristina Shakes (’94) broke through. A clean through-ball from Arielle Gonzales (’93) found Sidney Morales-Parodie (’94) in the clear. Sidney’s shot was pushed away by the goalkeeper only to find an advancing Kristina Shakes (’94) who side footed the ball low and in the corner. The Schulz Academy defense rearly allowed the RSL team to cross the half, as Merridith Delinois (’93), Colleen Spicer (’93), Julia Frederick (’93), Kathlene Casey (’94), and Sara Ballante (’93) gave very little space and were quicker to the ball than their opponents. The game ended tied 1-1.
U14 Girls vs. Plantation Eagles
On Sunday, the U14 girls rediscovered their goal scoring touch once again as they beat a very determined Plantation team 4-0. Brittany McDowell (’93) opened the scoring after collecting a pass from Kristina Shakes (’94) and dribbling past two defenders before unleashing a wicked left foot shot. Kristina Shakes (’94) tallied for the fourth straight game as she scored a powerful header off a corner kick delivered by Sara Ballante (’93). Paulina Speckmaier (’94) also scored a well driven header as she sprung high to finish off a corner kick once again supplied by Sara Ballante (’93). Goal number 4 came after Arielle Gonzales (’93) played a through-ball to Paulina Speckmaier (’94) who’s effort was blocked by a charging goalkeeper. Sidney Morales-Parodie (’94) cleaned up the rebound by calmly lofting the ball into the net. Goalkeeper Brittany Polly (’93) recorded her first shutout of the season. Polly has played outstanding in her last three starts for Schulz.
