TAMPA — United Soccer Leagues announced on October 16th the final player selections for the 2009 Super Y-League’s ODP National Camps to be held at Ed Radice Sports Complex in Tampa, Florida. 14 Girls from Schulz Academy made the ODP selection (with 4 alternates) and the list includes Player (born 1996) the youngest girl in North America to gain selection. This adds to the success of the young girls program that produced the U13 SYL Southeast Champions and saw 7 girls selected to attend US Club Soccer’s Regional id2 Camps, 3 attended the 2008 U.S. Soccer U14 Girls National Identification Camp, and 1 (Yulie Lopez) was selected to the U.S. U14 Girls National Team.
The first of two SYL ODP camps will begin on Thursday, February 19 and run through Sunday, February 22. That camp will consist of three girls’ groups: the oldest group will include girls born in 1992, the second group will be players who were born in 1993 and the youngest group will contain a combination of players born in 1994/1995.
The boys’ camp will be held the following weekend, beginning on Thursday, February 26 and continuing through Sunday, March 1. That camp will also consist of three groups, broken down into 1992 born players, 1993 born players and 1994/1995 born players.
“The Super Y-League ODP National Camps have propelled players from our league into U.S. Youth National Team Camps for successive years,” said USL Senior Director of Youth League Development, Jeff McRaney. “They also provide opportunities for elite players in the U.S. and Canada to be identified by top university programs and by our international partners, West Ham United.”
