The spring season has been like a blessing for Shawn Barry in Austria. After getting back his starting position (only 3 foreigners are allowed on the game day roster), he performs each game on a very high level and also scores deciding goals for his club LASK Linz.

Last week he scored the game winner in the 89th minute. These important 3 points kept the team in first place in front of FC Pasching, the sensation team in Austria, which reached the final of the OEFB Cup (similar to the FA Cup in England), by beating Rapid Vienna in Vienna in the quarterfinals and Red Bull Salzburg in Salzburg in the semis, both top Bundesliga clubs.

“I am so happy for Shawn.
U13 AND U15 TEAMS WIN TOURNAMENT IN MIAMI

All 3 participating teams reached the final. The U13 won in a dramatic penalty shoot out. U13 Coach Vinny DiBullo: "The players had an awesome weekend. After loosing a final a few weeks ago in another tournament, they showed their cool executing their penalties like professionals this time. It was an emotional win, and the players deserved it".

The U15 team won all their 4 games without conceding a goal. Roland Kollmann, former Austrian National Team player and a new addition to the Schulz Academy coaching staff, gave a great debut as a coach. "The players are already very advanced and it was a pleasure to work with them at the weekend. In a few years some of these players could turn pro, if they continue to work hard in practice", stated Roland Kollmann after the tournament.

The U14 also had a great showing, reaching the finals. Because some key players were missing due to injury or sickness, they had to play the tournament with a total of 12 players.

"Especially in the final, this handicap showed and they couldn’t turn around the early 1-0 lead of their final opponents. But this team has potential and with the players we know already joining the team for next season, it will be a power house in this age division", says Brian Quintana, who coached the team at the weekend.

JOZY ALTIDORE SCORES TWICE

A victory there would clinch AZ’s first Cup title since 1982 and qualify it for the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League. A berth in Europe’s secondary competition might come even with a loss, depending on how first-place PSV finishes its Eredivisie campaign.

AZ is in 13th and has struggled in league play. Second-place Ajax was heavily favored on Wednesday. But as Altidore said following the semifinal, “When you believe and you stay positive, good things will happen eventually.” They started in Amsterdam in the 74th minute when Altidore broken open the scoreless game with a short header. He outmaneuvered an Ajax defender and reached Adam Maher’s cross from the right.

Altidore set up Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s backbreaker in the 88th minute, then put his own exclamation point on the upset with a spectacular 40-yard chip over Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen in stoppage time.

“It’s something we’ve struggled on throughout the season in terms of finishing chances. But today we did it. The team as a whole, we played really well,” Altidore told Eredivisie Live. Despite those struggles, Altidore now has 23 goals in 2012-13, tying the mark Dempsey set last season with Fulham. Altidore has 11 games to break it—10 in the league and then the Cup final.

“It’s good for the confidence,” Altidore said of Wednesday’s performance. “We have a young team. This is good for them, to play in a final when it matters. It’s important for the city also.”

"Finally a coach understands that Josmer needs some freedom on top. He can make goals out of nothing if he has this freedom and a coach gives him this confidence. I am happy for Jozy that he has finally the success he deserves. He is still young (23) and has a lot of world class soccer in front of him", says Dr. Josef Schulz about his former student at the Schulz Academy.
