Goals by Felipe Noguerol and Daniel Henderson in the U16, and by Patrick DaCosta and JC Phelps in the U18 game gave Schulz Academy a great start in their Academy League season openers vs. FC Birmingham from Alabama.

The Academy League season 2008/09 started very successful for Schulz Academy with 2 wins vs. FC Birmingham from Alabama on Saturday at Central Broward Regional Park.
In the U16 game 2 early goals by Felipe Noguerol and Daniel Henderson secured a great start for Schulz Academy. The newly formed team showed a lot of talent, and dominated their opponents from Alabama.
“Definitely the 2 goals in the beginning of the match helped, but I think overall we deserved the 3 points. Birmingham was the expected tough opponent, and showed in the second half some good actions. For the first game I was happy with the performance of the players, but I expect everybody on a higher level in a few weeks”, says Dr. Josef Schulz.
In the U18 game Schulz Academy didn’t execute their 4 goal opportunities in the first 30 minutes, and like always in these cases, Birmingham scored with their first chance. After a nice wall pass a Birmingham forward was in a 1 vs. 1 situation with Cody Uzcategui, the Schulz Academy U18 goalkeeper, and hit home the 1-0 for the away team before halftime.
In the second half, Schulz Academy came out on fire, and completely dominated the game. The pressure had success, when Patrick DaCosta scored from outside the box for the 1-1 tie. With 3 minutes left, JC Phelps got the ball 30 yards away from goal, made two great cuts to pass defenders and spun the ball from 25 yards out exactly into the upper corner for the game winner.
“We almost ran out of time, but the individual quality of CJ at the end was the difference. When the ball left his foot, I knew it’s a goal. He does this every day in practice, and it was an absolute world class goal. He stepped up in the right moment for us to secure the 3 points”, states Dr. Josef Schulz.
