Schulz Academy U16 Dominates South Conference

WITH AN IMPRESSIVE 3-0 WIN IN ATLANTA SCHULZ ACADEMY DEFENDS LEAD

With his 2 goals vs. AFC Lightning on Sunday in Atlanta Felipe Noguerol is the top scorer of the team with 7 goals

Brian Sylvestre also came up big this weekend with some great saves, especially the penalty he denied on Sunday. Allowing only 2 goals in 11 games is an impressive record on this level.

Daniel Henderson, captain of the team: “It’s not by accident, the whole team is working very hard over the 80 minutes of each game. Our forwards start already early with pressure to the opponent’s defense, and force them into mistakes in their build up, which helps our midfield to get the ball back quickly. This way we as defenders have always time to fully concentrate on our job, when the ball comes back into our area”.

After a tough game on Saturday vs. Concorde Fire at the Georgia Soccer Park in Atlanta, where the game could have gone either way, and ended in a 0-0 tie, the Schulz Academy team showed on Sunday their class by defeating AFC Lightning 3-0. A first half goal by Joseph Chang, and 2 goals by Felipe Noguerol in the second half secured this important victory in order to defend 1st place in the South East Conference of the Development Academy League of the US Soccer Federation.

Brian Sylvestre, goalkeeper of the U-16 Schulz Academy Team : “I think I made my opponent nervous before he executed his penalty. It works most of the time. I was guessing the corner correctly, and was able to save his shot. At 2-0 us, the game could have been close again. The third goal by Felipe made everything clear though”.

“Although we are 8-0-3 (win, loss, tie), I am still searching for the personality of the team. We are an offense minded team, and sometimes in the practice they look spectacular, but still are not able to play on a consistent basis in the matches as I want to.  At the Winter Showcase in California from December 5-8 some very strong opponents are waiting for us (FC Delco, LAFC, PA Classics), and these are very good games to prove the quality of each of our players”, analyzes Josef Schulz, Head Coach of the team.

At the Winter Show in California the best teams in the country get together. These games, like all of the Academy League games will be scouted by College Coaches from all over the country, and also for the National Tam Coaches it is a great opportunity to see the best players of the US to play against each other. Highlight will be the match of the U-17 National Team vs. Brazil.
